A competent trainer would harness the value of trust in three directions:

  1. Trust his ability to conduct a successful training program.
  2. Gain the trust of participants.
  3. Trust the abilities of participants. This is an enabler of self-organization.

Being self confident and trusting that the training program would be successful is the right mindset by which a competent trainer would approach any training program he is conducting. Gaining the trust of participants is essential for the success of the training as it makes participants more attentive and engaged.

As for the trainer putting his trust in participants, this is the most difficult one of the three. The trainer should give participants plenty of freedom and allow them to self-organize. This requires a great deal of trust from the trainer towards participants and often results in outstanding outcomes.
